New Center, KUSKA, Will Facilitate Multi- and Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Peru.

April 21, 2014 - The collaboration between the University of Washington and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) became even stronger with the inauguration of a new center for interdisciplinary collaborations in global health at the UPCH campus. The KUSKA Center, named for the Quechua word “kuska” meaning “working together,” will serve as a catalyst for international collaborations that cross disciplines and institutions, with the objective of building teams working towards the same outcome – improved health and reduced inequalities. En la renovada y moderna Facultad de Salud Pública y Administración Carlos Vidal Layseca (FASPA) de la UPCH, se llevó a cabo hoy 4 de abril, la Inauguración del Centro KUSKA, que servirá para promover el trabajo multidisciplinario e internacional de docentes y alumnos de instituciones colaboradoras,  bajo el marco de la Salud Global: sin fronteras y sin separación por disciplinas, todos trabajando por el mismo objetivo. New Fogarty Fellowship in Peru to Establish Center for Innovation in Global Health

December 18, 2013  - The KUSKAYA project presented jointly by the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru and the University of Washington in Seattle, was one of five projects in 2013 that received funding from the Fogarty International Center to establish a training program and Center for Innovation in Global Health to employ an interdisciplinary approach for understanding complex health problems, emphasizing leadership, business models, policy analysis and implementation science. KUSKAYA means "working together" in Quechua, a Peruvian native language. Read more. 

  

Fogarty awards $7M in global health innovation grants

October 29, 2013 - To spur global health innovation and develop interdisciplinary research training, Fogarty has awarded $7.3 million to five institutions to fund projects in six low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Five-year awards from the Framework Programs for Global Health Innovation will support efforts to bring together students from engineering, design, ecology, veterinary sciences, nutrition, business and management, medicine, environmental science, social sciences, agriculture, public health and other areas with biomedical scientists to develop research training initiatives that encourage innovation in health-related products, processes and policies. The grants will fund new efforts in India, Malawi, Mongolia, Nigeria, Peru and South Africa. Read more.
